| Week 1 |
Hello everyone!!! So we are happy to announce the birth of
our sweet little boy Jackson Edward Broome! He was born on September 15, 2012
at 1:52 PM weighing in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and measuring 19 ¾ inches. So
as most of you know now I was induced and my perfect birth plan that I had in
my head was adjusted a bit but I would not change a thing because it brought us
our perfect baby. Friday I went back to my doctor for him to recheck my blood
pressure fully expecting it to either have leveled off or be put on bedrest. He said my levels were 130/90 and that
my blood pressure was getting progressively worse so I had to leave right then
and head to the hospital. I was really nervous because this was not what I had
planned and Zach was not with me. Thankfully my mom had gone with me that
morning and she went with me to the hospital. So on the way I made calls to
Zach and his family, who had gotten in the night before, to let them know I was
on the way to be admitted. It was about 11:00 AM when we got into the room they
started telling me about how they would induce me and asked me what my birth
plan was. I told them I wanted to go as natural as possible, avoid epidural at
all cost, and for Zach to be in the room with me. My wonderful nurse Luz was on
board and said she would help us along the way as much as possible. So Zach got
to the hospital and it all felt surreal that soon we would be holding our baby
boy! At first I was progressing along at a good pace and they were all very
confident about me going natural. At 7:00 PM that night at shift change we got
our other Labor and Delivery nurse, Shelly. She was absolutely wonderful and a
Christian, which really helped as the night went on. Around 1:00 AM the doctor
came in and said she would be breaking my water around 4:00 AM so to keep
walking and try to get things moving as natural as possible. So Zach and I
headed back to the hall and started our laps. When she came back at 4:00 they
said there had not been as much progress as they hoped but hoped breaking my
water will help. Once she broke my water the REAL labor started. What I
foolishly thought were contractions was nothing compared to what I started to
feel! Zach was great and really tried to help me through it. Unlike the tv
shows I did not feel like yelling or being mean but got very quiet and found it
hard to even want to breathe. So thankfully I didn’t have to make any
apologies:) At 6:30 they checked me again which at this point I had been awake
for 24 hours and was getting very tired since I had not had any food other than
a biscuit that morning. They informed me that I still had not dilated past 5 cm
but I was 90% effaced. At this point I was crying because I realized the
reality of being able to do this on my own was very unlikely because I had no
energy left and still had to push. So Zach and I prayed and I asked for the
epidural. The doctor and nurses saw how hard this was for me but were very
sweet and told me I had done a great job so far. I don’t remember much about
the epidural because they gave me medicine to help me relax but Zach said I did
okay with it. It was a very strange feeling to wake up and not feel my legs,
but I was happy to be able to move my feet and toes. They started to up my
pitocin and my labor was finally moving along again. Zach and I tried to get as
much sleep as possible, which was not hard since it had been a very long night.
Once I hit 8-9 cm things moved very quickly and once I hit 10 Jackson was out
in about 25 minutes! The doctor said it was a good thing things moved quickly
because my blood pressure was dangerously high and I had a fever. Jackson was
born with a slight fever and high levels of immature white blood cells so he
was put on antibiotics. I was put on magnesium, for my bp, and an antibiotic.
It was an amazing moment to finally see our baby boy and was so happy to be
able to share my experience with my loving husband! Zach watched the whole
birth and cut the cord- I was so proud of him. After that moment I don’t
remember much because the magnesium made me very loopy but I do know Jackson
could not have a better dad! Zach took care of both of us for the first day and
a half. He would bring Jackson to me and help me breastfeed him, change all the
diapers, help me to and from the bathroom, and made sure I had everything I
needed. I have never felt as blessed as I did those couple days to have a Godly
husband who was willing to sacrifice sleep and simply serve in any way
possible. He has still been the best help I could ever ask for! Once they took
me off the medicine, which was a joyous occasion, I was able to move around and
finally be a mom! It was also nice to be able to hold a conversation without
falling asleep:) Jackson still was on antibiotics up until the end but we were
released Monday evening. Before I continue on Jackson’s first week home I want
to say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Broome for bringing everyone, including my
mom, to Florida and spending time with us. I want to thank Mr. Broome for also
helping with the yard work and watching the dogs and Evan for watching the dogs.
This really helped me while we were in the hospital! I want to thank Monica for
walking numerous laps with me to help dear Jackson come. I want to thank our
moms for all the prayers, support, feeding Zach, and keeping up the house. And
Sam I want to thank you for coming and sharing in one of the biggest moment of
our life. We feel so blessed to have such wonderful families to help us when we
need it most.
So
Jackson’s first week home has been very eventful! Tuesday morning, his actual
due date, we had his first visit to the pediatrician because he was a little
jaundiced and he needed his levels checked after we left the hospital. The
doctor said he looked great and was confident it would go away naturally. He
weighed 7 lbs and 5 oz and did great for his first time at the doctor. Later
that day Rachel came by for a visit and I was excited for her to meet Jackson. Wednesday
Zach started back to work and Jackson went for his first visit to daddy’s work.
Michelle from our church also brought us dinner and it was nice to spend some
time with her. Thursday my mom and I had to make a quick visit to Target
because I was not aware of how many diapers babies went through:) We also gave
Jackson his first bath at home! Friday my dad came in from NC and got to meet
Jackson for the first time! We had a nice day loving on Jackson and catching
up. Courtney also stopped by for a visit and I was so happy to see her. After
dinner that night we went walking around downtown Mt. Dora and enjoyed
Operation Deep Freeze:) Saturday has been a great day filled with lots of
football! The boys all watched football while my mom and I worked on getting
pictures together for family and cooking. It has been a great week! I am sad my
mom will be leaving soon because she has been a big help around the house with
cooking, cleaning, and helping with Jackson so I can nap. It was also just nice
to have her around to hang out and spend time together. Jackson has been doing
great nursing and loves to eat all the time. I see him change daily but love
him more by the second! He has been a great baby so far and rarely cries unless
he needs to eat or have a diaper change.
