Jackson's Here - Week One

Week 1

Hello everyone!!! So we are happy to announce the birth of our sweet little boy Jackson Edward Broome! He was born on September 15, 2012 at 1:52 PM weighing in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and measuring 19 ¾ inches. So as most of you know now I was induced and my perfect birth plan that I had in my head was adjusted a bit but I would not change a thing because it brought us our perfect baby. Friday I went back to my doctor for him to recheck my blood pressure fully expecting it to either have leveled off or be put on bedrest.  He said my levels were 130/90 and that my blood pressure was getting progressively worse so I had to leave right then and head to the hospital. I was really nervous because this was not what I had planned and Zach was not with me. Thankfully my mom had gone with me that morning and she went with me to the hospital. So on the way I made calls to Zach and his family, who had gotten in the night before, to let them know I was on the way to be admitted. It was about 11:00 AM when we got into the room they started telling me about how they would induce me and asked me what my birth plan was. I told them I wanted to go as natural as possible, avoid epidural at all cost, and for Zach to be in the room with me. My wonderful nurse Luz was on board and said she would help us along the way as much as possible. So Zach got to the hospital and it all felt surreal that soon we would be holding our baby boy! At first I was progressing along at a good pace and they were all very confident about me going natural. At 7:00 PM that night at shift change we got our other Labor and Delivery nurse, Shelly. She was absolutely wonderful and a Christian, which really helped as the night went on. Around 1:00 AM the doctor came in and said she would be breaking my water around 4:00 AM so to keep walking and try to get things moving as natural as possible. So Zach and I headed back to the hall and started our laps. When she came back at 4:00 they said there had not been as much progress as they hoped but hoped breaking my water will help. Once she broke my water the REAL labor started. What I foolishly thought were contractions was nothing compared to what I started to feel! Zach was great and really tried to help me through it. Unlike the tv shows I did not feel like yelling or being mean but got very quiet and found it hard to even want to breathe. So thankfully I didn’t have to make any apologies:) At 6:30 they checked me again which at this point I had been awake for 24 hours and was getting very tired since I had not had any food other than a biscuit that morning. They informed me that I still had not dilated past 5 cm but I was 90% effaced. At this point I was crying because I realized the reality of being able to do this on my own was very unlikely because I had no energy left and still had to push. So Zach and I prayed and I asked for the epidural. The doctor and nurses saw how hard this was for me but were very sweet and told me I had done a great job so far. I don’t remember much about the epidural because they gave me medicine to help me relax but Zach said I did okay with it. It was a very strange feeling to wake up and not feel my legs, but I was happy to be able to move my feet and toes. They started to up my pitocin and my labor was finally moving along again. Zach and I tried to get as much sleep as possible, which was not hard since it had been a very long night. Once I hit 8-9 cm things moved very quickly and once I hit 10 Jackson was out in about 25 minutes! The doctor said it was a good thing things moved quickly because my blood pressure was dangerously high and I had a fever. Jackson was born with a slight fever and high levels of immature white blood cells so he was put on antibiotics. I was put on magnesium, for my bp, and an antibiotic. It was an amazing moment to finally see our baby boy and was so happy to be able to share my experience with my loving husband! Zach watched the whole birth and cut the cord- I was so proud of him. After that moment I don’t remember much because the magnesium made me very loopy but I do know Jackson could not have a better dad! Zach took care of both of us for the first day and a half. He would bring Jackson to me and help me breastfeed him, change all the diapers, help me to and from the bathroom, and made sure I had everything I needed. I have never felt as blessed as I did those couple days to have a Godly husband who was willing to sacrifice sleep and simply serve in any way possible. He has still been the best help I could ever ask for! Once they took me off the medicine, which was a joyous occasion, I was able to move around and finally be a mom! It was also nice to be able to hold a conversation without falling asleep:) Jackson still was on antibiotics up until the end but we were released Monday evening. Before I continue on Jackson’s first week home I want to say thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Broome for bringing everyone, including my mom, to Florida and spending time with us. I want to thank Mr. Broome for also helping with the yard work and watching the dogs and Evan for watching the dogs. This really helped me while we were in the hospital! I want to thank Monica for walking numerous laps with me to help dear Jackson come. I want to thank our moms for all the prayers, support, feeding Zach, and keeping up the house. And Sam I want to thank you for coming and sharing in one of the biggest moment of our life. We feel so blessed to have such wonderful families to help us when we need it most.
So Jackson’s first week home has been very eventful! Tuesday morning, his actual due date, we had his first visit to the pediatrician because he was a little jaundiced and he needed his levels checked after we left the hospital. The doctor said he looked great and was confident it would go away naturally. He weighed 7 lbs and 5 oz and did great for his first time at the doctor. Later that day Rachel came by for a visit and I was excited for her to meet Jackson. Wednesday Zach started back to work and Jackson went for his first visit to daddy’s work. Michelle from our church also brought us dinner and it was nice to spend some time with her. Thursday my mom and I had to make a quick visit to Target because I was not aware of how many diapers babies went through:) We also gave Jackson his first bath at home! Friday my dad came in from NC and got to meet Jackson for the first time! We had a nice day loving on Jackson and catching up. Courtney also stopped by for a visit and I was so happy to see her. After dinner that night we went walking around downtown Mt. Dora and enjoyed Operation Deep Freeze:) Saturday has been a great day filled with lots of football! The boys all watched football while my mom and I worked on getting pictures together for family and cooking. It has been a great week! I am sad my mom will be leaving soon because she has been a big help around the house with cooking, cleaning, and helping with Jackson so I can nap. It was also just nice to have her around to hang out and spend time together. Jackson has been doing great nursing and loves to eat all the time. I see him change daily but love him more by the second! He has been a great baby so far and rarely cries unless he needs to eat or have a diaper change.

Week 38

Hello everyone! I surely hope his is our last blog entry with Jackson still inside:) This past week has been very good for both Zach and I and we are so ready to meet our little guy! Zach has now finished all his major projects and I have completed all the lesson plans for the next three weeks. Last week I was pretty sick with some type of viral infection the doctor said so I didn’t do much after work except sleep and try and clean when I felt like I could. I am happy to finally be over whatever virus I caught and ready to hold Jackson. Wednesday at my last doctor appointment the doctor said all signs are looking good that he is trying to make his way out-YAY! She said I was one centimeter dilated, 50% effaced, and at 0 station. At first I didn’t really know what 0 station is, but later found out that means he is in line with my pelvis and VERY low! I of course could have told the doctor he was low because I am very uncomfortable now and everyone at work tells me he looks lower by the day. Anyways hopefully this is good news and I will be a bit farther along at my next appointment this Wednesday and they will say I can induce:) Thursday this week I made potato salad and brownies for Zach to take to Gospel Community, GC, to go along with some gator tail and other sides at Josh and Rachel’s house. I was very sad I couldn’t go because Josh caught the gator and I heard it was delicious, but I am glad Zach got to go enjoy time with friends. Friday night I was doing a little better, at least I could breathe easier, and in an attempt to make Jackson come faster wanted Mexican. So while trying to convince Zach that this would be a helpful dinner John and Courtney call and ask if we would like to go out for dinner. I was so excited to see friends since it felt like forever being cooped up from everyone but kids and I got Mexican!! It was a great night and we were so happy to share some time with them. We are all trying to make this a weekly tradition now and it seems like the perfect way to cap off a week to me:) Saturday Zach woke up and made us all pancakes, the dogs love pancake morning because they get a small one, and watched game day. Of course throughout the day we watched football but we also worked on a couple things that needed to be finished. We cleaned out both of our cars and Zach installed the carseat and mirror, which was very exciting, and I also put my “Florida family” on the back of my car-including little Jackson! On Saturday we also celebrated our 10 year anniversary which is not until September 13th but we wanted to do it early in case:) Zach bought me beautiful flowers and took me to a wonderful dinner at Fishbones in Lake Mary. It was a great night out and the food was delicious! I am so thankful to have found a Godly husband and provider who is also my best friend. Jackson will be one lucky baby to have his as his daddy:) Sunday after church we went out to lunch with friends and ran some errands before coming home. When we got home we had a missed call from Zach’s Grandma and Grandpa Murphy letting us know they would be passing through the area from visiting family and would love to stop by. Of course we were so happy to see them and glad we got to spend some time with them and show them all of Jackson’s things. Today I started my final days before going on maternity. Zach and I decided that Wednesday will be my last day of work and I will go back after Thanksgiving break that way when Jackson does decide its time I am ready and hopefully not sick again:) Also a huge praise Sunday I was talking to a lady from our church who is interested in watching Jackson after I go back to work! This has been a big concern for us and we have been praying God would send someone who would be able to do this and within our budget.

So Week 38(almost 39 now) and we only have 7 days left until his due date! This week he is about the size of a pumpkin, which pains me just to type, and I feel like I am hauling around a pumpkin. This week he is shedding the skin-protecting vernix and lanugo and producing more surfactant, which will prevent the air sacs in the lungs from sticking to each other when he begins to breathe. His growing has slowed but he still continues to accumulate fat. He is now close to 7 pounds and still around the 20 inch mark- give or take a few. Hopefully soon he will be here with us and we cannot to hold him and for everyone to meet him! I know he is going to be so loved:)

Week 37

Hello again!! We are now in our teens for the countdown (14 days!!) and we are getting so excited to know Jackson will be here with us soon. Work has still been good for me and I have been getting a lot of things checked off our to do list:) We finally have found a pediatrician and glad to have that taken care of now. Wednesday at my appointment the doctor said everything is still looking and sounding great. We also talked about the potential to possibly induce. He knows I am so worried about how things will play out since we live about 45 minutes from the hospital and said if everything is naturally progressing and induction would be a choice we could have. This would also make it nice so that our families would be able to know ahead of time, but God has a plan so we will just have to wait and see. So at my next appointment this coming up Wednesday they will check to see how everything is progressing and let me know if this is an option. Friday we went to dinner with Courtney and John and had a great time talking about our weeks and of course babies:) Saturday we started our final housework and we can say we are finally almost there. Just a couple more things to wash, put away, and vacuum and we will be pretty much done! Zach has been working a lot on the yard lately too so that when Jackson does come hopefully it will not be as big of a task, although his mower decided to not work this weekend, so he was set back a little, he pushed through like a champ to get it all done. Sunday after church we went out with friends and a new couple from church and had a good meal and great conversation. Thankfully our friend Garrett had a mower and let Zach borrow his on Sunday so we could get the lawn mowed then Zach had to rake both the front and back yard- he was tired by the end of the day to say the least, but still went and ran 3.5 miles. We have had a very productive and busy weekend but we are so glad that things are getting done and ready for our little man. Monday we had a bit of an off day from working and Zach went scouting with Garrett in the woods to get ready for hunting season, while I went with Courtney to Motherhood Maternity to get some things I will need when I start nursing. Once we got home I worked a bit more on the house and some school stuff I need to finish while Zach started smoking a chicken for dinner and did some of his work stuff. It was a great day out for both of us and we are so blessed to have such amazing friends. Overall we had a great weekend and can breathe a little easier knowing we got a lot done!

This week Jackson is now considered full term!! He is around 6.5 pounds and around 20 inches. He is still moving all the time and has the hiccups often. He is still practicing the skills he will need for when he is born like: inhaling, exhaling, blinking, sucking, and gripping. Hopefully soon we will all get to see his sweet face and we can’t wait to see his personality:)

This is a bear print!! He said he saw a lot out there. The bear stepped in the mud and the sand was left underneath- so cool!
