Week 32

Week 32

She is loving on Jackson while I am doing an online class for work. She loves to snuggle up close to my belly whenever I sit down

Zach installing Jackson's fan:) He is such a good daddy already!!

So once again we had a crazy and very busy week. I am so happy to say that it is over!! Sunday the girls from my Gospel Community hosted a shower for me. It was a tea party and everything was beautiful and delicious! We had a great time and there were lots of friends there to celebrate Jackson’s upcoming arrival. Most of the women were friends from church but several others traveled to join us for the afternoon. Zach’s mom, grandmas, aunts, and cousin Addison came from Titusville and Amanda, Carlee, and Ariel came from Gainesville. It was so good to have them there and I was excited for them to meet our friends here. Once again Jackson was showered with gifts and surprises for when he decides to join us. I am so blessed to have found such wonderful friends. I can’t wait for their special days so I can return the favor! Monday after work we drove to Orlando to attend our breastfeeding class. It was very informative and makes me hopeful that I will be able to nurse Jackson successfully. I am very excited that we are able to learn as much as we can now to help us prepare for when he is here with us. We also met another couple there from Mt. Dora and they were able to point us in the direction of a potential pediatrician. On Tuesday after work it was back to Orlando for my doctor appointment. It was the usual routine- measure my ever growing belly, listen to his heartbeat, and question time. Everything was normal and he said I am doing well with my weight gain, which is always nice to hear when you feel like a huge balloon. Wednesday after work Zach and I headed up to Orlando for our last planned trip for the week. This time we went to Winnie Palmer, the hospital where I’ll be delivering, for pre-registration and a hospital tour. It was good to see all the different floors, get tips on how to make our stay more enjoyable, and the basics on how everything runs. Thursday our Gospel Community and several other GC’s met in Downtown Mt. Dora for the traveling food trucks. It was a great time of food and fellowship, and I even got my favorite cupcakes!! Friday was a bit more interesting. Starting Wednesday night Jackson had not been moving like he normally does but I figured it was just because he was tired of all the craziness. Thursday morning I still had not felt him move but was trying to not really stress about it and just wait for him to pick up his movements. We had a field trip to the science center that day so I was moving around all day and did not really have much time to try and wait for him to be moving. Once I got home that afternoon before we went out for dinner I was getting a bit nervous because everything I had been reading said he should have moved by now. I tried laying down, which normally he just starts moving like crazy, and still nothing. I told Zach and by this point we had both been praying and I had felt like one kick but nothing normal. After food trucks we swung by Garrett and Crystal’s to borrow their stethoscope to see if we could try and hear him. Once home it took me a good while but I was able to hear his heartbeat and it was such a huge relief. I thought for sure we would feel him move soon or at least in the morning. When I woke up Friday and still felt nothing I emailed my doctor about what was going on to see if this was normal or something I should be worried about. They called me back right when I arrived to work and told me to leave and head straight to the hospital. At this point I was really freaking out so I called Zach he met me and we headed to Winnie. Once there they hooked us up to a Fetal Movement Monitor and praise the Lord he had a strong heartbeat and was moving. I still could not feel his movement, which they do not understand, but I was so relieved to see that he was! They told me to track his movements from here on out and contact the doctor if we see a decrease again. The nurse was very helpful and told us its always better to be safe than to come later and have an emergency. Afterwards we told Jackson no more scares please. Saturday was an all around great day! We worked on the house, Jackson’s room, and the yard. Zach put up the fan/light fixture in Jackson’s room so now I can work in there in the evenings. He also put together our pack and play and put it in our room so we are ready for our little guy to come. We also bought our changing pad and cover and put them in the room. I am getting excited to see it all come together little by little. Saturday night we got all dressed up and went to an education benefit “Dancing with the Stars” where one of Zach’s colleagues danced to help raise money for local classrooms.

Jackson now weighs almost four pounds and still around 18 inches. We are now starting the 8th month and have 50 days left until the due date! Growing isn’t the only thing he is doing right now, he is also prepping for his big day. In these last few weeks he is practicing all the skills he will need to survive outside the womb, from swallowing and breathing to kicking and sucking. Another change this week is his skin, which is no longer see through but more opaque as more and more fat accumulates under the skin. He is also moving towards a permanent heads down decent. I am also starting to notice I cannot walk as fast, seem to run out of breath quicker, and in general tired more. Zach has really been a huge help lately around the house and just encouraging me to rest more and not worry about everything.

Week 31

Sorry it has taken me a little longer to update this. We are happy to announce we are still having a boy! The 3D/4D ultrasound was amazing, and of course he showed us he bottom and boy parts first. It took a bit of work but we finally got to see our little guys face and he is so precious. We think he looks a little like Zach when he was a baby in some of the pictures so it will be fun to see how he looks when he is born. We also learned he is already head down and as low as he can go at this point, which is why it was hard to get a full picture of his face. He also likes to keep his hands right by his face and we got to see him suck his thumb once. Towards the end of the ultrasound he had his hands and feet all by his face and seemed very content all balled up. It was also so nice to have our family there to see him. Afterwards we all went to lunch and then headed back to Mt. Dora to relax. Zach smoked us a chicken for dinner and we all had a great time hanging out and sharing baby stories. Sunday Zach made us all pancakes for breakfast and then we headed over to Titusville for the baby shower. As soon as we arrived the guys all headed out to Dixie Crossroads for lunch and some man time. Mrs. Grant, Kim, and Michelle had done a beautiful job decorating and preparing food all morning long and it was all so wonderful! It was a great day spent with family and friends and I was happy that both our moms and Monica got to be there to make it that much more special. Jackson received a lot of great gifts and we cannot wait until he gets here so we can use it all. Zach and I are blessed to have such wonderful family and friends that would make this time so special for us and we cannot thank them all enough. Monday after work my parents and I started sorting and trying to put stuff together and away. It was a lot of fun and I was very excited for Zach to come home and see it all. Tuesday I had the day off so that I could spend it with my parents and take them to the airport. We had a nice day together walking around the outlets and Ikea. It was hard to see them leave but I was thankful for the time they took off to be here and excited for the next time we see them because Jackson will be here!! Thursday my class went of a field trip to the Tampa aquarium. It was a long day but the kids had so much fun and it was great to hear all the things they remembered me teaching them when we studied the Great Barrier Reef. Thursday night we also had our Gospel Community over for dinner and it was nice to spend time with friends and relax together. This weekend Courtney is hosting our last baby shower and I am so excited to get to spend time with everyone.

We have less than 60 days left until Jackson’s due date and we are getting so anxious to meet him, but grateful that we still have some time to get everything together. It still amazes me each time I feel him move that soon this little person will be here with us, sharing our lives. This week he is now about a little less than 18 inches and around 3.3 pounds, around the size of a pineapple! He is quickly approaching is birth length and has about 3 to 5 more pounds to gain. All five senses are now fully developed while his brain is still rapidly developing brain connections. Although it his brain is still developing, he is able to put that complex web of brain connections to good use by already processing information, tracking light, and perceiving signals from all five senses. His brain is also a sleepy one, putting in longer stretches of snooze time- specifically REM sleep. He can now turn his head from side to side and his arms, legs, and body are starting to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath the skin.

Week 30

Hello everyone!! Zach and I had a wonderful visit this past weekend in Huntsville and Birmingham. Friday night Zach’s parents picked us up and took us out for some dinner before heading to Huntsville for the night. It was great to see them and get to spend some time catching up. Saturday morning Zach and I woke up and headed to my parents’ house for a bit to see them and see Daniel. I really enjoyed spending time hanging out and seeing my brother for a while. He also gave us some camo gear for Jackson, and I can’t wait to see how cute he will be wearing it all! He also knows of my love for Eric Carle and bought some alphabet and number flashcards, before I was even pregnant, and gave them to me – he is so sweet. I was soo very excited to say the very least and I know Jackson will love them as well. My dad bought me a couple books to read to Jackson (he knows me well), a John Deere onesie, and the Davy Crockett DVD - what boy doesn’t grow up watching Davy! This was both their first times seeing me with Jackson and they can’t wait to meet him. After our visit we headed to Birmingham with Zach’s family to go look at some stores downtown and go to Fuzzy’s wedding. We were so happy to share in Ashley and Fuzzy’s special day and it was such a beautiful wedding! It was also good to catch up with some friends from college we have not seen in a while and see where life has taken everyone. Sunday Zach and I headed back to Birmingham to eat lunch with Caroline, my college roomie and best friend, and her mom. I was so thankful we were able to find a time to see them because we had such a good visit! They also surprised us with crib mattress covers, sheets, and two sheets that Mrs. Culberson sewed special for Jackson. It means so much to have such a personalized gift for him from such good friends. After lunch it was back to the airport for our flight home. Jackson has been quite the traveler during his time in utero but we are finally done with the big traveling until his arrival. I am a little sad to know we won’t be going anywhere, but very happy to know we will be home for the next couple months! This Monday I had my last monthly doctor visit and all went well. The doctor said he is measuring right on track still and I am still doing well with my weight. I also got to hear his heartbeat, which was very strong, and such a comfort to hear as always! I can’t believe it is already time to start going every two weeks; time is just flying. This weekend we are very excited because both sets of our parents and Monica are flying down to see Jackson’s 3D/4D ultrasound. I can’t wait to see our little guy and for our families to be sharing in this special time with us! I am also just excited to have some more time to see everyone and I know the dogs will be overjoyed to have some company for a bit. I will definitely be putting up pictures in the next blog of the ultrasound and letting you know how it all goes.

So just 10 more weeks, hopefully not more, and Jackson will be joining our crazy lives! Jackson is moving more than ever and I feel like some days I can just feel him growing. He is about 17 inches now- holy cow!- and just over 3 pounds. A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds him at this point, but that volume will start to decrease as he gets bigger and takes up more room. He is getting bigger by the day and his brain is also growing daily. Starting this week, his brain is starting to look like one. Taking on characteristic grooves and indentations, these wrinkles allow for future expansion of brain tissue that is crucial as he grows from helpless infant to responsive infant to verbal toddler and beyond. His brain is also starting to take on tasks previously delegated to other parts of the body, like temperature regulation. Now that his brain is capable of turning up the heat, he will start to shed lanugo, the downy, soft body hair that has kept him warm up until this point. His eyesight continues to develop and will continue to do so after birth. When born, he will only respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision and only make out objects a few inches from his face. His skin continues to get smoother as he continues to add body fat. His grip is also improving, and he is strong enough now to grasp a finger! Hopefully we will get to see this grip in the ultrasound.

Week 29

Week 29

So far Zach and I have had a good week and we are very excited for our first Fourth of July in Mt. Dora- not to mention just having a day off work! Monday night I met with a couple of girls for our weekly DNA and had a great night sharing stories and talking about God’s plan in our lives. Courtney and I are pregnant and Crystal just had Grace so it is nice to talk about our experiences as we go through them and I can’t wait for our children to grow up playing together. Zach went running with the guys for Tough Mudder training on a new trail by our house and is excited to take me out there, but clearly not to run. Tonight Zach went out with a couple of guys for some “guy time” at a wine bar in downtown Mt. Dora and has already informed me I would love going there. I am so grateful for the relationships we have formed here and know God brought us to this place for a reason. This weekend we are excited to be flying to Birmingham, Alabama for Fuzzy’s wedding! Fuzzy was Monica and I’s college neighbor in the apartment complex we lived in and we can’t wait to share his special day. I am also excited because I will get to see Daniel and my parents before the wedding Saturday. I have not seen my brother since Christmas and I miss him all the time! He has already sent me a picture of all the fun camo outfits he has bought Jackson and I know he is going to be a great uncle.

Jackson continues to grow, as you can see in the pictures, and is now a whopping 15.2 inches long and weighs close to three pounds- about the size of an acorn squash! He still has a ways to go and will triple in weight before birth but is within inches of his birth length- this is very hard for me to believe because I feel like he is already so big. Muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. He is also starting to get cramped in there, because he is growing so fast. White fat deposits under his skin are growing, leading to and energy surge- which I am constantly feeling and seeing. His bones are also continuing to harden and each day about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited into his skeleton. Jackson is definitely squirming more and kicking less, I assume because he has less room to kick, but it is an exciting feeling each time and I feel so blessed to be able to experience this! He is also starting to hiccup more which is funny to watch because my whole belly moves up and down.

Week 26, 27, and 28

I am so sorry these are late again, after it deletes itself it is hard for me to find the time to retype it all. I am going to give you the highlights of the past couple weeks. Jackson had his last doctor appt. on June 11th. The doctor said Jackson is doing very well and I am measuring at 26 weeks so that is right on track. I also got to listen to his heartbeat and it was beating at a healthy 150 beats per minute. This was my first doctor’s visit without Zach and I was a little sad for him to not get to be there to hear it, but I know that if he could have he would have:) At this doctor’s visit I also had to take my glucose test. Thankfully I passed with no problems and the drink was not as bad as I thought it might be. That weekend we got to celebrate Zach’s first Father’s day!! For his first gift Jackson and I “got” him a smoker! He was so excited to use it and made us a chicken for dinner that night- well worth the investment. The chicken was wonderful and we ended up eating for several other meals that week. On Friday the 22nd Zach met up with his family in Orlando to celebrate his Granddaddy Broome’s fiftieth year as an attorney. This was a special time for Zach and we were both very proud of Granddaddy. That night we flew to Nashville to meet up with Monica, Dewayne, Evan, and Sam for the Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney concert! We were a little nervous leaving since Tropical Storm Debbie was predicted to possibly hit Florida, which we all know she did, but very excited to see the concert. Saturday was a beautiful, sunny, and HOT day in Nashville, but we all had so much fun and of course the concert was amazing. Monica, Sam, and I freaked out when Faith Hill came out to sing “I need you” with Tim!! Sadly time flew by and it was already Sunday and we had to head back home, which met us with lots of rain and wind. Thankfully we were not one of the areas that lost power or flooded and we all have been asking for rain to get us out of this drought, although I do think we are in the clear of that now.

Jackson is doing great and moving around all the time. I can now feel him kick and move his body around. It is so crazy to me when I feel him pushing on my side and when I put my hand there know that I am touching him!! Zach has gotten to “feel” him too and is just as amazed as I am. I have also started feeling him have the hiccups a couple times and it is so weird to watch my belly move. I cannot believe that in 12 weeks we will get to meet our little guy! I am also getting bigger and starting to feel my body get hotter easier, which has been a challenge at times since it is already hot most of the time. I will be growing about ½ inch each week at this point-scary!!! Overall though I am doing fine and still able to work my normal hours, with a nap once I come home of course:) Zach helps out as much as he can and gives me back rubs when my back starts hurting so can’t complain there!

Week 26
This week Jackson is about 14 inches long and weighs a little over two pounds! He is continuing to put on fat each day-some days I feel as if I can feel him getting bigger. He is inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, and these so-called breathing movements are essential for the development of the lungs. Another momentous development this week is the fact his eyes are now beginning to open. Up until now his eyes were still fused shut allowing the retina to fully develop. His eyes still do not have any pigmentation, but Zach and I both predict his eyes will be brown:) To test out his new sense of sight we tried shining a flashlight on my belly to see how he would react to the light and it was so amazing- he would actually move to the other side away from the light. We did this several times and then he just started to kick it so we figured game over but it was neat to see how he reacted and Zach got to feel him move from one side to the other. He also has started reacting more towards sounds and will seem to jolt if there is a loud noise around like the shop vac, drill, or something similar.  We also put headphones on my belly or the laptop close to it and play different types of music- he definitely moves more when it has a faster beat. It has been fun experiencing his reactions to different things through his movements, which seems to be all the time now.

Week 27
Jackson now measures in at about 14.5 inches long and around 2.3 lbs. He has more taste buds now than he will have at birth and beyond. This means he cannot only taste the difference in amniotic fluid when I eat different things, but react to them. So far he seems to love everything- whenever I eat he moves shortly after and rarely gets the hiccups from one particular type of food. With more brain tissue developing, his brain is very active now- along with his movements.

Week 28
I have finally hit my third trimester!!! We are both getting so anxious to meet our little guy and have been so blessed with such a smooth pregnancy up to now. We are getting things ready for him as much as possible and can’t wait for all those little moments. This week we built a shelf for his books and some of his toys. I just love walking by and knowing we will be reading these books to him shortly:) He is now 14.8 inches long and weighs 2.5 lbs. The skill of the week is blinking. He is now blinking his eyes along with the other tricks in his repertoire like sucking, hiccuping, and taking practice breaths. Also, up until now his brain appeared smooth but around 28 weeks it starts to form characteristic grooves and indentations on the surface. The amount of brain tissue also continues to increase and billions of neurons are developing. His body is also starting to fill out even more because of increased fat underneath the skin. Zach and I started to make predictions about how our little man will look and Zach thinks Jackson will weigh a little over 8 pounds at birth and I am guessing 7 pounds and 12 ounces.
